$37,156- $45,360 SUMMARY - Provides security at the Justice Center and maintains order in the courtroom during trials, provides security to members of the jury from various contacts, guards and assumes responsibility for all prisoners and inmates during their detention in the Holding Facility within the Justice Center, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned as needed and required:
Greets individuals desiring to enter the open and restricted areas of the facility and informs them that they must be properly screened prior to entry Screens citizens for weapons, explosives, or other forbidden articles by both walk-thru scanners and hand- held wands if required to detect and prevent restricted articles from being carried into the facility Request individuals to empty contents of their pockets as well as others areas of their person, clothing and other containers to allow a proper inspection of such articles prior to returning all allowable items Examine all articles from individuals to confirm that they comply with all rules and regulations for entry into the facility and confiscate any and all unauthorized contraband Inspect areas on individuals that activate the security scanners or areas on their person that is suspected to contain unallowable contraband, also confiscate any and all contraband and take the appropriate action Properly inspect purses, brief cases, or other containers when the walk-thru or hand-held scanner displays questionable or suspicious contents also confiscate any and all contraband and take the appropriate action Collects and retains unauthorized items from persons entering courtroom.
Inspect courtrooms at assigned and various times for contraband, security and cleanliness.
Enforces courtroom rules and regulations along with both local and state laws regarding behavior and other disruptive actions that interfere with the court procedures Maintain general order within the courtrooms Restricts guests from entering the courtroom while the Judge changes or adjust the jury as instructed Provides an escort with members of the jury to restaurants and other areas both inside and outside of the courtroom to ensure preventive contact with the general public as well as general safety during the various courses of a trial Provides sequestered jury security at various lodging sites during both criminal and civil trials Officially announces the entrance of the Judge and the starting of the court procedure as well as other related instructions during the course of the court proceedings Conduct both foot and vehicle patrols of the facility and outer areas for any suspicious activity and properly address such to maintain order and ensure the safety of all guests and employees Properly communicate any and all actions or activities with the Main Control Center of the Justice Center Communicate with the Court Clerks to identify the daily court calendar.
Assists in preparing the meal vouchers for members of the jury during various trials Provide transportation for members of the jury to various locations during criminal and civil trials as instructed Arrest and prepare supporting documentation of individuals that are remanded by the courts or otherwise break or disregard various local and state laws.
Provide escorts and other related security measures to any and all guests as requested Must be able to work various hours and shifts to accommodate all functions of the facility including the courts Must be willing to address all the general, reasonable needs of the guest and employees within and the surrounding areas of the facility HOLDING FACILITY JOB FUNCTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS - Take physical custody and responsibilities of inmates from the Transport Deputies as well as other law enforcement entities and officers for various purposes within the Justice Center Maintain proper security of inmates while in the Holding Facility as well as other areas of the Justice Center and ensure that proper demeanor and rules and regulations are adhered to while in the courtrooms Transport and remain with the inmate to the Court Rooms as well as other areas as instructed by the courts or various supervisors until their return to the Holding area Conduct inmate Head counts within the Holding Facility as instructed by practices and supervisors instructions during the course of the work day to ensure efficiency Maintain a proper corrections log and disciplinary reports of the activities and events that occur within the Holding area Maintain a visual of the video monitors located in the Main Control Center of the Holding Facility as per practices and as instructed by various supervisors Report any unusual and/or illegal activity to the Main Control Center of the Justice Center by means of your two-way radio or other available means WORKMAN'S COMPENSATION SECURITY DEPUTY'S FUNCTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS - Provide security to the Workman's Compensation Employees and Guests at the off-site facility Assist with maintaining control and order at both the interior and exterior areas of the facility during the proceedings Conduct foot patrols of the interior and exterior of the facility to locate any illegal or unusual activity and properly address same as well as to deter any criminal acts Conduct electronic hand-wand inspections of all individuals entering the facility as requested by officials Address all other reasonable request that are made by officials SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Must possess basic computer skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write and prepare correspondences and court worthy reports.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Valid Louisiana Motor Vehicle Operator's License; proof of residency of St.
Tammany Parish (voter registration card); birth certificate; and Social Security Card.
