Medical Assistant - Hematology/Oncology - Full Time - Days

This non-exempt position is responsible for nursing care under the supervision of physicians and nurses.
This position requires physician office clinical operations and coordination of patient care, patient assessment and interaction.
In addition, the medical assistant serves as the vital contact for patients, medical vendors, and medical providers by communicating information in a friendly professional manner.
Familiarity and knowledge of outpatient physician office operational practices required.
Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital's strategic goals.
Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives.
Demonstrates cooperation and support in engaging staff with teamwork.
Demonstrates responsiveness and follow through.
Demonstrates planning, organizing and problem solving and assists in the implementation of the solutions.
Coordinates the medical care for patients under the direction of the SMH employed physician.
Provides direct patient care as ordered by medical provider.
Triages patients includes delivery of patient to treatment room, performing accurate vitals, reviewing and recording accurate history and physical, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Continuously checks messages via the medical record to follow-up on any requests.
Processes patient requests and/or fax requests in a timely manner and ensures proper documentation and provides the necessary care as directed by the SMH employed medical provider.
Coordinates the daily medical operational activities and communicates to the medical provider the tasks required to provide quality care.
Communicates and relays medical information to patients, in accordance with HIPPA guidelines, in a timely manner.
Assists health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures.
Verifies benefits on medical procedures ordered by physician, as well as obtaining pre-certification or authorization when required.
Maintains accurate and appropriate documentation in patients' medical records as services are being rendered.
Attends training for staff development.
Reviews medical supplies required to provide quality care, and stocks patient's exam rooms daily.
Follows physician office policy and procedures for ordering supplies.
Review weekly medical supply ordering requests and communicates this weekly to the Director.
Follows OSHA guidelines and properly cleans treatment rooms, exam rooms and lab station after each patient visit.
Adheres to infection control, safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization.
Preferred:
Current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice and knowledge of regulatory agency standards for area of expertise.
Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Certification program.
Five years working in a physician office providing outpatient care.
PALS, ALS.
Required:
Current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice and knowledge or regulatory agency standards for area of expertise.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Certification program.
High School diploma required.
One year experience in a physician office with direct patient nursing experience required.
CPR certification with the American Heart Association.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
